Hi all! I am extremely new to this forum, as in this is my first post. I have been day dreaming for quite some time about hoping on my single speed and going cross country and seeing the country and discovering new places. I don't own a car so I am always on my SS putting major miles on it every day. I live in north Texas and I am looking to go up into Oklahoma, probably Tulsa and then shoot across into Colorado, after that its fair game. Now the trip it's self will be some what improvised. What I am not improvising is what I am bringing. Which is why I'm here, I'm hoping some of you could give me some insight on what to bring,as in tools,gear,etc. I'm looking to keep things light obviously and not bring anything that I won't ever use or need. As far as what I'm riding, I ride a 50cm (I think) maruishi rx-2 SS with front breaks. 2:1 ratio. Any advice on traveling, safety, gear, etc is welcomed. Thank you guys so much!

FWIW. I recommend that you switch to DROP handlebars if your bike currently has a FLAT bar ...
Add a rear brake caliper ...

- include a set of intermediate CX-levers if you have only used Flat Bar brake levers
Change the Chainring (or, if necessary, the crankset) so that your Chainring is either a 32t or 34t ...
Then, have a 16t + a 22t Freewheel for the "flip" side of the hub ...
- yes, depending on how you set up your chain, it may be a little slack when you switch to the 16t ...
- if your chainline isn't skewed, then the chain should stay in place ...
- ACS makes 22t Freewheels ... so, that's probably the brand you should opt for
- even with a 32t Chainring + 22t Freewheel you may need-or-want to walk up some inclines
Bring a pair of goggles for when it gets windy ...I think you should plan on two water bottles + a camelback-type of bladder because (this may be stating the obvious) towns are not close together ...
Remember, too, that the temperature swing between daytime (especially if you factor in the solar gain) & nighttime is pretty wide (often 30º+), so bring an appropriate (fleece) vest plus a light jacket or arm warmers.
Were you planning on "camping" OR stopping at KOAs OR using motels?
