OK I'm a littletubby guy who needs to get fit enough to ride a 56 mile ride with some decent hills,.
Two things...I've got a MOuntain Bike, so advice on getting that prepared and second how about me? What gym work can anyone suggest to prepare me for the ordeal? It's all for charity mate!
Hi,
I assume that you are doing the charity ride in June? I've done the ride a few times and the best advice I can give would be to not bother with the gym, but go out and ride as much as you can between now and June.
First off you need to get your ass used to being in the saddle for what will probably be more than just a few hours.
Doing so will also train train the cardiovascular systems and specific muscles associated with cycling, its the old adage, if you want to be good at football, play football, if you want to be good at running, go running, ergo..........!
Don't know what sort of kit you have but cycling short are a must, cycling shoes would be a big help and make sure you drink and eat plenty during the ride, also don't get over excited too soon or you'll be walking up Ditchling beacon if you are tired when you get there!
Starting riding now will also help your handling of the bike because on the day there will be upwards of 30k people doing the ride and you will needs your wits about you when you are surrounded by other people who may only ride their bikes once a year!
Hope this is of help!!
