  1. Small item in this week's local paper (Knox Journal) that cycling in
this area is up by 23 per cent.
Okay, fine. Unfortunately, it neglected to add that only one per cent of
the population actually rides bikes out here in the sticks, and the
roads and traffic are as god-awful as ever.
I recently rode my bike to a council event on a Sunday morning promoting
sustainable living. En route, a passing cager screamed `Get off the
f---ing road'. C'est la vie. Two cheers for Knox City Council, there are
no bike lanes or sealed shoulders on any of the major arterials out here
    at all.
Ditto for local pollies, during the 06 State election campaign, one said
everything would be fine once EastLink was open, and opposed the
proposed Rowville rail line (and lost), the other wanted to widen the
feeder roads. Both of which simply encourages the stupid buggers and
    makes the problem worse.
    Cheers,
