Quoted message said:Hi,
I've lifted weights on and off since I was a teenager. I've always tended
to lift hard and heavy for the sake of building muscle mass.
Right now though, I am considerably overweight, and will focus my workouts
for the next year or so on fat loss--mostly cardio.
Can anyone recommend a weight regiment that will complement a fat loss
program? Or any other styles or strategies of lifting that will maximize
my fat loss and keep me energized for my cardio?
Male, 26 years old, large-framed and fairly strong, but overweight.
Experienced lifting weights so I don't need detailed explanations of each
exercise or machine. Just looking for ways to change my lifting style or
routine to fit my new goals.
Thanks a lot,
chris.
Consider strength/endurance work - it's a great way to keep in good cardio
shape while remaining striong and losing weight. It is not, however, good
for keeping big muscles for most people.
http://b4.ezboard.com/btheironworks is a message board run by Bryce Lane, a
former mfw regular, that discusses strength/endurance. You might want to
check it out. Other topics are allowed but this is the board's stated
focus.
Google this guy
Dragan Radovic
His main thing is that he puts a 40 lb. duumbbell overhead for a lot of
repetitions, and he's not carrying around any extra bodyfat. 🙂
Last but certainly not least, you might also look into kettlebells - the
simple kettlebell swing, done for high reps, is a low-tech way to get the
job done. My site has some kettlebell info if you're interested. I do
kettlebell swings every day - if I had to drop every other exercise from my
program thiis is the one I'd keep.
