  1. Is there much of a difference between the ST6603 left shifter and the ST6703 left shifter. My components are 6700's. I found a 6603 for less than half the cost. I'm changing from 2 gear crank to a 3 gear crank. Would I be able to use the 6603 shifter for my setup?

  2. There are a couple of possible issues with doing this:

    1) 6600 and 6700 shifters look and feel VERY different. The cable routing is also different. Foir this reason alone I would not recommend what you aare suggesting.
    2) I think the front derailleur geometry has also changed between 6600 and 6700 (I know that is the case for Dura Ace but not 100% sure here) which could mean you will need a 6600 derailleur with the 6600 shifter.

If you want triple with 6700 you need the 6700 triple shifter and the compatible 6700 triple derailleur.

The cheapest option is a double compact. For that you retain the shifter you have, but you will need a compact compatible front derailleur (as well as the crank).
