Stage one of the AMGEN Tour of California ended with hometown favorite Levi Leipheimer retaining the yellow leader's jersey despite crashing in the race's closing kilometers as the route entered his hometown of Santa Rosa. USA Cycling National Development Team riders John Devine and Brent Bookwalter placed 36th and 62nd respectively, finishing in the main field and receiving the same time as stage winner Graeme Brown of Australia. Bookwalter moved up to 12th overall in the Best Young Rider classification and is the squad's overall leader in 80th heading into stage two Tuesday.
