Lecithin / anyone know why?

I think this is the research done on a family in Italy who
were found to have a non-typical type of hdl and almost no
heart disease. The product is what came from that research.
This is interesting in light of recent news accounts saying
that many researchers are now demoting hdl as a first line
predictor of risk to a 2nd line of concern, giving full
weight to ldl control as the primary risk factor upon which
to focus. The reason the family does so well might not be
the different hdl after all.

If you choose the MEDLINE display option from PubMed you'll
see that "Phosphatidylcholines" appears as one of the
keywords. Lecithin often/usually contains
phosphatidylcholine so the terms may be synonymous for
searches.

If you look at definitions of lecithin like...

"Mixture of the diglycerides of stearic, palmitic and oleic
acids linked to the choline ester of phosphoric acid;"

...and compare it to the description of ETC-216...

"synthetic HDL complex composed of 14 mg/mL recombinant
apoA-Im and 13
mg/mL 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl phosphatidyl choline (POPC)"

...you can see that the phospholipid in the ETC-216 is
phosphotidylcholine attached to palmitic and oleic fatty
acids. It can therefore can be called lecithin.
