LBS in D.C. area

There's a reputable one in D.C., on M street in Georgetown, right near
the Key Bridge. I think it's called "Pro Bike Shop". Not positive about
the name, but you can't miss it if you pass by. They have a real good
inventory of high-end road bikes and accessories.

Listed more or less in order of preference:

Plum Grove Cyclery in Leesburg is a shop more oriented to "serious"
cyclists. I don't have a lot to say about this shop except that the
owner is helpful, supports the W&OD Trail, and he's got some nice bikes
in there. He's helped me out when I had a problem on a ride.

Spokes, Etc in Vienna seems like a pretty good shop with decent prices.

A-1 Cycling in Herndon is a place where you have a better chance of
getting parts than Performance. A decent shop.

There is a Performance shop in Reston. It is what it is, which is a
good place to find your bicycling staples at reasonable prices, but I
couldn't even get a light gauge butted spoke there. You can order from
the catalog and have it shipped to the store and save on shipping which
is good because you have to pay tax on catalog orders because of the
retail store. I've found better prices at Spokes, Etc on some stuff.

College Park Bicycles, about 180 degrees around the Beltway from Reston
is almost legendary along with its owner, Larry Black. He's also got
another shop somewhere in Maryland but I can't remember the name of it.

I don't have a lot of experience with any of these shops because I do
my own maintenance for better or worse, haven't bought a completely new
bicycle since about 1990, and use largely retro stuff that I can't get
from these places, with the exception of College Park, which is too far
away for me. I'm not sure where I would go to get a wheel built-
probably Plum Grove or Spokes, Etc.; I'd probably question them about
their process. OTOH, that might be the type of thing I'd make the trip
to College Park for, especially if I could place the order over the
phone and get the whole thing done in a single trip.
