  1. Can someone tell me what makes latex tubes special.

    Thanks

  2. good things:
    1. lighter than butyl
    2. cool color
    3. stretchy so it can resist some punctures better

    bad things:
    1. leaks air so you have to pump it up each day
    2. expensive. really expensive.
    3. much harder (at least for me) to patch. I've never patched one successfully.

  3. Don't forget that it latex tubes generally handle the road better than butyl, and give a slightly better ride.

  4. No kidding on the loss of air. I splurged and bought a pair of cotton Dugast tubulars recently. I pumped them up to 9 bar for a ride, parked the bike that evening, and when I got it out three days later, pressure was down to about 1 bar.

Freaked me out to think that both of those expensive tires had gone flat, until I remembered the latex inner tubes.

  5. Can be quite pricey too but the price seems to be coming down a bit as they get more popular

Got a couple of pairs of Michelin Air Stop (the green ones) from www.bicyclerubber.com

But yes, they do go down !

Use them only with top tyres on my best bikes and am sure there is a difference (even if its only in my mind, that's OK for me)!

    Cheers
