I'm from the Los Angeles area and am going to ride the Bikefest Century next month. I am 57, Just started training about 2 months ago, after retiring, bought a new Cannondale and am looking forward to the century. ALthough I have about 750 miles at this point, I am a little concerned about the climg up to Red Rock Overlook. Could you give me an idea of the lenght and grade of the climb. I'm pretty good on flats now, but my climbing is not what it used to be at this point!!!!! Would very much appreciate it!

  4. redrocks climb is very gradual (spelling) i can usually avg 19 to 20mph for the whole climb, now if they go right into redrocks reserve there are a few short sections where the incline increases but not alot. I dont know actuall percentages of grade but it is not bad at all just continuous (aprox 10 miles to the entrance, and the reserves loop is an aditional 13). I love this ride.

Thanks very much...the graph on the Century's home page makes it look pretty tuff.....I've been working on hills a lot lately, but I guess it's better to get it out of the way early, since after red rock, there's quite a bit of downhill.
