Like everyone else, Lance Armstrong had a hot, hard race today, but Armstrong's stage may have had a slight advantage on the other 92 members of the Dauphiné peloton. Armstrong finished 9th today in the same group as O'Grady, testing a new Trek Madone prototype before his ascent of le Mont Ventoux tomorrow. "Light" was the one word a smiling Armstrong said to Cyclingnews this morning at the start in St. Etienne.
It must have been a really dull news day for Maloney to write this let alone for Jeff to publish it. And how much above the UCI legal weight limit is Krispy's Madone. Did they have to add weights to it like with Simoni and Cunego's Cannondale?
Probably an ounce or two over the 15lb limit. Like all the other pro rider's bikes.
Anybody know how often these bikes get checked for weight compliance? Seems it would be easy to submit a bike with a heavy wheelset for weigh- in and then swap in the featherweight wheels before the race and ride an illegally light bike. There must be some testing controls.
I know at the tour last year, OLN showed his bike being weighed prior to him entering the starting gate on the first time trial. I thought I saw the rider signing in, his bike gets weighed, then he goes into the box.
