  2. tactically he did the smartest thing possible. with deteriorating
conditions at the time trial he backed way off and took it safe. getting
hurt at this time would have been the dumbest thing he could do. tactically
the discovery theam played this race the best it could have bben done. they
kept lance safe, they won the yellow jersey and the team competition. lance
    will be ready for france.

He was already 1 minute behind Landis at the top of the climb before any
dangerous parts of the course began.

  4. here is the way i look at it. i was standing at the finish line. when
lance begain riding floyd was almost in. when floyd crossed the line i was
not even wet and all i was wearing were levis and a cotton t-shirt. there
was a light rain falling by the time floyd crossed the line but most of his
ride was in the dry. soon after floyd crossed the line it started pouring
and everybody wheeled out the umbrellas or ran for cover. i am sure this
was not the only factor as lance was 1:10 down at the split. Floyd turned
in a good ride and was the only rider under 40 minutes. lance did the tour
a favor just by showing up. all he really cares about is the race in france
so everyting else is just training. the way he pulled the lead group up
hogpen gap and not only conrolled floyd up the brasstown climb but at the
end hammered down and blew him away showed me that lance has it. lance has
been the master of playing possum and the more doubts the competion has
about him going to france the better. we will see how it all plays out in a
couple of months and it is going to be exciting however it turns out.
personally i would have retired after 6 and be watching this years race from
    the sofa.
