Do you have a magnet on your front wheel? check that it isn't hitting the computer sensor.

Yes I do have a front wheel magnet but it is well clear of the sensor. Having ridden the front wheel in a differant bike (which made the knocking even worse) I am inclined to suspect bearing, or possibly spokes.
