  1. Hi All-

About 6-7 years ago while playing basketball, my kneecap was
dislocated. I had to have it reset. i was never told to go
to physical therapy, that everything would be fine. well,
every since that point, my kneecap will often "slip" out and
cause me great pain. most of the time its a little sore the
next day but nothing major. i have to wear a brace if i am
to do any running at all, even light running. this past
weekend i was dancing and reinjured it. it did go back in
iteself, but it hurt worse than ever. i woke up the next
morning to find it very swollen, stiff, and very painful to
try and walk on. I saw my doctor and had an MRI done. She
says I need to see an orthopedist(sp?) because of
"softening" of my knee cartilage. what exactly does this
mean? I have tried to google for some answers, but
everything is a little vague. is this something serious?
    will i need surgery?

    TIA!
