I have been riding about ten miles a day for the last three years. I have not changed the setup on my bike for the last two years, and have had no problems until recently. Several times just before I get up in the morning (while still laying down in bed) the back of my left knee starts to really hurt. The pain is not in or just behind the kneecap. It seems to be just below the skin in the hollow of the rear part of the knee.
It almost seems like a spasm but feels somewhat different, and drinking quinine water does not seem to help.
Any ideas about what is going on would be appreciated.

Check out this informative bit about knee pain....
Try riding in a higher gear.I nearly tore my kneecaps off riding in 1st after I reached 50.I'd also see a doctor if the pain continues. It only took me one visit and a perscription to relieve a problem that had been ongoing for a year os so.
