  1. Hi,

this is my first time visiting this forum. I just started out cycling about a month ago after baking off of running. Since biking, I have been getting knee pain when I stand up from sitting for a few minutes. it does not hurt when riding.I have not been stretching before riding which is about 70 miles a week right now. should I be stretching, and if so what is the best bet?

    Any help would be appreciated.

If you didn't have any knee pain before you started riding a bike, then you might want to make sure your bike is fitted to you correctly.

For instance, the height of your saddle can cause knee pain if it isn't adjusted correctly and there are other fitment issues that could contribute.

    As far as stretching goes:

If it makes you feel good, then do it. 😄

I personally have never experienced any benefit to my joints by stretching.

I do stretch to loosen up my muscles, but that is usually during and after my ride. Stretching before my ride seems to hurt more than it helps.

I think you have to figure out what works for you.

I was told when I first got on a road bike NOT to go up hills or on too long of rides but mostly hills... 'cause you can burn our your knees by pushing it when your joints aren't used to it. Speaking from little experience, but mostly hear-say... I'd spin alot on your first 10 or so rides... just spin on easy gears, don't push it, and don't climb long, hard mountains or longer hills.

What kind of pain are you dealing with? Is it temporary stiffness, pain in the front, back, or either side of the knee?
