FXS is a disease caused by a defective gene on the X chromosome, resulting in *MENTAL* retardation,
seizures and *BEHAVIOR* disorders.
It usually affects male children more seriously, especially in the case of behavioral disorders,
because they have only one X chromosome.
The *GENE* was discovered in 1991 but often goes undetected.
