Anybody have one of these? Any good? I saw one at a discount shop
yesterday and was tempted but held off, awaiting expert info from this
crowd.

Kitchenaid has a great forum on their website, lots of activity from
interesting people (like us). The ice cream attachment has its own
section, http://forum.kitchenaid.com/forums/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=73 , I
haven't read it but it looks to have 20-30 entries.
I found the forum because I was so disgusted with the attachments on my
Kitchenaid mixer. The hubs are made from some soft metal that turns
everything it touches grey. So I wanted to tell them "give me
stainless steel attachments!!" And now....they're working on it. I
still can't believe that they were so responsive. Of course, as soon
as I wrote my thread everyone else on the forum reinforced my claim.
So they knew they had a lot of interest.
sorry for rambling.... 🙂

LOL Ah then could you please mention the eternally leaking oil from the
mixer head? Starting to think the mixer has a pipeline to another
dimension. It's been leaking oil for years (in common with thousands of
other KA mixers) yet still seems to work LOL.

bit closer to the bowl. the stuff next to the bowl freezes
fairly rapidly, but it's not mixing into the middle. so, you
end up with really soft ice cream that *needs* to be put in
the freezer to firm up before eating, and if you're adding
fruit or nuts, they will all end up on the bottom.
i was making strawberry ice cream. i think if it had been
vanilla or chocolate it wouldn't have bothered me as much. the
finished ice cream, after 2 hours in the freezer was *really
really* good... despite all the strawberries sinking. it was
amazingly good 2 days later.
i was hoping to have the kids make ice cream at Boo's
birthday (in August) & the KA ice cream is way too liquid for
that. i'll drag out my White Mountain freezer for the party
because it at least makes immediately edible ice cream even
though it's *loud* & messy. otherwise, for home use, the KA is
far less messy.

Thanks for the information. I might go for it anyway. My plan is to
make low calorie fruit ices or fruit yogurts. It might work.
Still cogitating...

mmmm. fruit ice... my mom had a great recipe for one that
tasted like marachino cherries... (oh, MoooooOOOOOm! i need a
recipe....)
i think i would have been more pleased with it if i didn't
have the White Mountain freezer to compare. also, i was making
the strawberry ice cream with a cooked custard base, which
does freeze differently than non-egg based ice creams.
