The Influenza Pandemic started in Fort Riley, Kansas, a massive gathering of soldiers for the
"Great War" and that confluence of swine contamination and a major migrating bird flyway. Those
who were cared for in overflow hospital facilities in virtually the open air fared better than
those in traditional stuffy hospital wards. Country boys with great lungs were hardest hit. The
Italians had it easier. Was it their obsession with fresh vegetables and the inclusion of Bay Leaf
(an antispasmodic), Garlic, Olive Oil, Wild "Greek" Oregano and Thyme (anti-septics), and Lycopine-
rich Tomato?
