On this date Greg Lemond won the time trial stage from Versailles
to Paris by 58 seconds over Laurent Fignon, giving him the Tour
by a margin of 8 seconds. Fignon finished third om the stage,
Thierry Marie took second @33".
This is the smallest winning margin in Tour history, out of a total
winning time of 87:38:35. At an average speed of 54.545km/hr it
was the fastest non-prologue TT until David Zabriskie went faster
in Stage 1 of this year.

No. Lemond has said he asked not to be given any split times, since he knew
had to go all out every bit of the way. Fignon did receive splits. IIRC,
Lemond picked up 18-20 secs (and thus the margin of victory) in the last 2-3
km, esp on the last uphill portion of the Champs.
