Anyone else feel bad for Beloki ? Already in 2003 before the Tour there were rumors going around that he might quit if the Tour 2003 wouldn't work out. Well with the crash and all I actually thought that he would call it quits then and there.
But after he healed rather quickly (maybe too quickly) and reading early season reports from his new team... I felt rather confident that we would have the "old" Joseba back.
However the recent problems with his hip and the fall in the Criterium somewhat stifle that euphoria.
I hope he will not quit but hang in there and deliver a great Tour.
Watching his fall in the criterium he didn't look like he hurt himself (luckily!). He just slid down a grassy bank. I think pulling out the next day was more psychological than physical.
Listening to the race commentary though, both Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen didn't think that he'd be back at his best in time for this year's Tour. Maybe 2005?
Hope Joseba will be back to his best in the 2004 Tour (but I doubt it), he finally had the confidence to attack in the 2003 Tour then he crashed out :'( Maybe 2005 for Beloki 🙂
