I've just purchased a Trophy and on Sunday a new Cycling Association
will be founded
the John Leo Trophy, in memory of my Dad(not a cyclist), who passed
away over 7 years ago
will be the cycling equivalent of the FA Cup...
with each round on a Sunday, round 1 being at Hawes (route 38), with
the first half of race
winners going through to the next round at any of around 40 routes,
with the final back at
Hawes, a 25 mile course...
say there are 1,000 starters, anyone can compete, round 2 will be of
500, round 3 of 256
until it is wittled down to 2 for the final...
all races will be televised and shown on Sunday Night over the
Internet, possibly being
highlighted on a terrestrial current channel of the big 5...
Sponsors will be found and there will be a prize for the winner, apart
from the esteem of
winning and receiving the cup which will be forfeited on Christmas Eve,
to be engraved
ready for the next summer...
by starting round 1 at Hawes, everyone can say they have rode the
equivalent of Wembley
it may start this summer as a small concern, but by summer 2007 there
should be enough
competitors to warrant a big crowd...
the profile of cycling needs to be promoted in my opinion, and it has
the ethos of people
keeping fit and healthy with the routes also being good for walkers...
all the best to cyclists everywhere, and anyone with a competitive
edge, please look forward
to an exciting challenge, see if you can beat this 38 year old going on
7...
