Jane climbed mountains in the Alps and Pyrennees and even climbed Mount Ventoux in under 2 hours on a tandem, as part of her "Rome to Home" cycle.
Jane has also been recognised at national level, receiving awards and recognition in her fight with this terrible disease.

Tonights programme was about Jane's training and participation in the annual Ironman (woman) competition in the USA.
Jane, despite terrible pain and extensive treatment, trained for this event.
The form of cancer than Jane suffers from, has invaded her bones and her hip
was aching throughout training.
But she entered and managed to finish the Ironman event in 15hrs 48mins.

This programme was truly inspirational.
Jane has raised hundred of thousands of pounds in sponsorship and reached the one million pound mark during the filming of this programme.

I'm not trying to steal thunder here, but all families have been affected in some way or another by cancer in whatever way it manifests its purpose of cell destruction...
The best thing that I ever did was to start up the Helen Rollason memorial award on BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. That'll do for me.

Yeah, I remember Helen Rollason - she used to present sport on the BBC.
A very good presenter she was too.
Unfortunately she succumbed to cancer too.

You helped to set up the memorial award, in her name ?

Yes, What had happened was that was during a transmission of Sports Personality of the Year output one year was that they were banging on about the amount of endeavour, dedication and persistent attitude required from the assemblage of personalities. Then they mentioned that Helen Rollason had died. Having seen a previous program about Helen and her determination to stay alive, her daughter was only a 13yo at the time, I decided to take up the cudgel and addressed the idea to Des Lynam to make some sort of award in future programmes in parallel with the able bodied.
Well it seems to have worked, and I doubt whether the award of success in the face of physical adversity will ever leave the stage now. BTW I have never mentioned this before, only my immediate family are aware of this.

i remember Helen 'starring' opposite John Craven when i was a kid...
