  1. I notice a lot of low carb, no sugar candies, etc seem to have Isomalt as an
artificial sweetener. Is this permissible on low carb like Atkins?

    Tnx,

Induction is simple - If it's not on the list it does not pass
your lips. Isomalt is not on the list.

In stages 2 on Atkins is a process to find out what your body
can't and can't handle so almost nothing can be labelled
forbidden. It's a question of where it would appear in the
carb ladder and hence when to experiment with it not whether
it's simply always or never allowed.

Isomalt is much like a sugar alcohol so most of the sugar
alcohol debates apply to it. It gives some the runs, not
others. It is fully absorbed as carbs by some, not at all
by others, and partially by most. Once you know your CCLL
you will have complete control over being in or out of
ketosis and you will be able to tell for certain where you
are in that spectrum and before then you should count all
of its grams. That boils down to a suggested time to try
it for the first time - In the several weeks after you've
    found your CCLL.

There's also the question of how successfull do you want
to be in tradeoff with how much work do you want to put in.
More work, more success. Doing the 4-phase Atkins process
    doing a strict schedule of 20, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 ... to
find your CCLL and adherring to the carb ladder in strict
order only skipping rungs you don't like, that is both the
most work and also the best success. But plenty of people
have just-fine success with considerably less work than
that. As long as they are sucessfull, they have no need of
the extra effort. Where you are in that amount of effort
    spectrum is up to you.
