I am a road cyclist. However, I haven't really done any road cycling for three months due to travel for work and moving to a new city. Now I am in my new city, I have started commuting to work on an old Schwinn Traveler (with a Turbo saddle). I have only been commuting for a week, and the commute is not long. I spend maybe an hour a day getting there and back.
Now I find I have small lump on the inside of my left butt cheek. The lump is under the skin and pretty small - probably a little smaller than a pea. There is some redness around it. There is also a little discomfort (which is often exacerbated by cycling my Schwinn).
I am quite worried it could be an abscess. I am getting my road bike rebuilt this weekend and I desperately want to get back out on it. I also know abscesses can result in people being out of action for some time.
I am going to go to my new physician this week to talk about it. (This might be embarrassing as she is an attractive young doctor). However, before I go, if any of you have had experience with an abscess or thoughts on what it could be other than an abscess, then I'd like to hear from you.
It could be a bug bite, a pimple, a boil, an ingrown hair, abscess, cancer, etc. There's nothing to be gained from anyone on here taking a wild stab at it, no pun intended. The only valid advice you can or should take from a forum like this is to let your doctor deal with it. Myself, I would either try to pop it or lance it myself (or have my wife do it) with a sterilized tool, but that's just me. You'd be dumb to try that because you read that I would do it.
