Needed new brake levers due to sloppy and poor working order. Had those Shimano XTR pods that were a reward for finding a wallet a few weeks ago. So now I got sick of seeing them just sitting there getting dusty. I installed them on my commuter yes- terday and got to try them out today. Work they do and fine job at that. They replace Tektro levers that were 4 years old and just worn out. To much play,clicking sound when let go also cable hanging up. Is this a good upgrade or overkill.

Probably overkill for a commuter, but what the heck -- they were free. I know you're a grip shift guy (like me). What do you think of the funky shifting on those things? Tried some SRAM triggers at the LBS the other day. I think I could use those.
sounds like you're pimpin' now....don't look a gift horse in the mouth, just go with it!
overkill? haha never. why not put them on your regular bike and swap whatever you've got on there if you're concerned?? a lot of XTR stuff I wouldn't want for everyday use, brake levers are an exception but if they break prematurely from lack of strength or durability I'd like to hear about it.

The Sram MRX Grip Shifters remain on the handlebars. I just liked the lightness of the XTR and I needed levers. I could allways in the hook up the cables since the rear derailleur is a Shimano. For my 2 commuters the rear derailleurs are Shimano with a LX and XT waiting in the parts box if need be. All my 5 mtb are Sram totally. I love my Sram parts all the way up to the X-9 rear derailleurs. I was look- ing at a X-7 rear derailleur the other day. I could not tell an X-7 from a X-9 if they both black or both silver. But I do know theres only grams apart between the X-7 and X-9. And that that my Freeride friends use X-7on their Santa Cruz rigs.
