Been having this problem of late, IBS. Not a humorus subject. It has kept me off the bike for almost 4 weeks now, and I'm sure I've lost most of the fitness I'd gained the prior 3 months. I've tried some of the diets that are out there with no luck. Seems the only thing that helps is immodium, and I'm concerned with taking that long term. It still doesn't help with the bloating. The only thing I haven't done yet is see a doctor. I don't want to have to take a prescribed medication to control it, although I'm running out of options.
I'm wondering if anyone out there has had any luck with a certain diet, or has been on the prescribed medication for this? If on the meds, what side effects are there, and has it made a significant difference?
Any help would be great, I need to get back to training soon as I am loosing my mind. If you find it please return it to, [email hidden]
TIA,
BQ

TIA,
BQWhat is your fiber intake like? I cannot help but wonder if that is a major part of the problem too. I am only 42 but I was already hospitalized once for diverticulitis in 2001. Ever since then I have been neurotic about getting enough fiber in my diet. I may have to s*** a lot and take Metamucil at night, but it beats flare ups and surgery! I also have Pepto Bismol on hand (in addition to Immodium as needed).

one thing you can try is kefir. it helps all kinds of digestive problems and helps cronic constipation and diarrea.
it has helped me a lot. I don't have IBS but it may hep you. you can try the commercial stuff but making it yourself. I can send you the grains to do it if your in the us.
