as a continuum in the saga that is Dutch  ...

Bike has been assessed by CW, and to repalce frame forks and other damaged bits (basically frame/fork, stem, bars, Hbar tape, saddle, ergos, front tyre/tube and labour) and a figure given.

Insurance Co (after registering surprise at cost!) then say
"Oh, we would write the bike off and go for complete replacement!"
and
"We need to get a 2nd quote and can you take the bike to our assessor"

So, I explain its a custom made frame and the ONLY people (unless Suzy wants to lug-me-up :D) who can rebuild the frame is CW.

So they dither about that for a few more phonecalls (them calling me) and finally decide to send the CW quote to 'their people' (i presume some half-arsed bikeshop who underquoted everyone else to get the RACV contract  ). I keep explaining 'ITS A CUSTOM BUILT FRAME' and they are welcome to get it priced elsewhere but whoever does this is only going to have to commission CW (well, paconi) to remake another. On top of that all the camapg bits are gonna have to be bought off Darren(CW)'s brother anyway and just arent gonna beat CW on that price.

AND, just adding to that, saw my surgeon dude this morning for a check-up to make sure everything is settling in in the shoulder dept, and he mentions to me that my right arm may permanently be left (practically) 1" longer than my left and I will always have this huge disfigurement on my shoulder (de bells, de bells) too!@$@#$@#!###!###!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im ready to FCKING hit something/someone and the last thing i need is some ignorant little **** telling me my bike 'aint worthy' just cos it aint a conformadore.

So, i just have to wait and see what the next day or 2 brings in this soap opera.

I hear ya mate.

Last accident I had - the insurance side of it was absolutely farcical.

I ended up having two different people from AAMI (the assassin's
insurer) giving me two completely different amounts that they were
willing to hand over.

I of course told the one with the highest amount that I'd accept it
($1100 vs $600). The $600 dude then rang me and asked if I'd decided
what to do yet.

I said - Yep - have accepted your offer of $1100
He said - WTF!! (or something like that...)

I filled him in. He and the other guy ended up having a p!ssing contest
on who was supposed to make the decisions. Then the $600 guy rang me
again and said:
"I was right. You were only supposed to get $600. But because we told
you that we'd hand over $1100, we will...."

I laughed and said: "So I've had a win!"

He chuckled and said: "Yes......."

I have no idea how these guys make money - but I do understand now why
their processes are so all over the place...

Good luck FD - hope the insurance gods smile on you too!!

In the 1994 bush fires a friends house burnt down. NRMA said they would
not pay the full insured cost "because the tennis court had not burnt
down"! He threatend a letter to the SM Herald and the full amount
arrived immediatly.

Insurance companies are high on the list topped by lawyers!

Well, thats where it helps to know a friendly LBS
You just pop in and ask them for a quote
then help them to add 25% to the guys who made it {:).

Lookout, this could give you the riding position of Francisco Mancebo!

Dutch,

try to get them away from thinking about replacing a broken 'bike' with a new 'bike'. Try to get them thinking about replacing a "custom bike frame made of ..... and custom sized to 'Mr Dutch's' dimensions with Campy Carbon Record brake levers +.........."

Have you given them a detailed build description of the bike? Perhaps witht he retail prices of each component of the gruppo listed. Its always good to establish a high water mark so you can then be 'reasonable' and accept less. ie cost of frame + relevant 'build kit'.

make sure your new custom frame takes in to account your new ape-like arm dimensions

Maybe the bend in the old frame will be just right to compensate for the differential Dutch arms. Maybe the bent handlebars will help to fit the new shaped Dutch too.

Only kiddin'. Don't give up on getting that new two wheeled weapon. Keep smiling. :)

*yes, I do want the right sleeve of my suit shorter than the left. You're a tailor, just do it please*

2 S Day (Chl)
3 S Jacobson (Bbn)
4 B True (Mor)

I thought you raced B grade?

B grade track (club, C,D or E for opens), C grade road (I think 4 races at glenvale in C & no results)

It amazes me that so many people do this. (not just you PH, but soooo many Bgraders ride C grade when they can get away with it)
Another vote for centralising grading, me thinks

and so what if you get no results ridin Cgrade at glenvale, poor, poor sooky lala. Next you'll be complainin at GOAT cos they wont replace the pint you dropped bwahahahahahahahahahah :D

Dutchy, road and track are very different, and it makes no sense for anyone to be in necessarily the same grade in both, if I had raced a lower road grade then I would take the .

The highest grade I have ever ridden on the road is C, when I was previously in C and had not raced for a while, I came back to C and didn't go back down to D grade (as you yourself had suggested doing! - be careful before you become a hypocrit!)

Fair enough, I just thought you were riding B, which was why I
was doubly impressed when you told me your result at
Crib Pt :) Especially as I hadn't seen you in the bunch - very
sly sprinter, I thought.

It's still a bloody good result, you have my congrats, you
just missed the B grade disaster area!

hey, bein a hypocrit is FUN! :D besides my return to D has more to do with gettin a feel for riding in a pack post-accident. Im havin enuff problems crossin the road at ped lights let aone amongst elbows etc.
If/when i get back to racin Im thinkin of givin DGrade a spurt and if i end up at any pointy end of a race just easin off safe in the knowledge i can still do 'it' and go and join Cgrade again
