Dear All
Having only ever insured cars and motorbikes, can anyone recommend good insurance schemes in the UK
for MTB's?
Thanks :o)

Put it on your house insurance.

Lawks, I thought that house contents might not cover a £2k+ bike....but I don't suppose it's that
silly in a relative kind of way.
Thanks

Quinkster-
I called several insurance companies asking to insure my $3,000 mountain bike. After about the third
or fourth try, one politely explained to me that I might as well ask them to insure a stick of
dynamite. They just won't do it. Bikes are made to be stolen.
Your best bet is to never let that bike out of your sight. Keep it in your house, locked down if you
must, when you're not using it. And get a cheapie commuter bike to run errands on.

The old one speaketh the truth.
I can't find an insurance company that will insure my bike for anywhere near it's real value. Case
in point: Had one bike recently broken in a vehicle versus bike accident. My 'full replacement'
contents insurance paid out about 1/3 of what the bike was worth (but I got to keep the wreck as
part of the deal). The bike was only 9 months old and specified on the policy. They simply will not
insure a bike for full replacement. An increase on my premiums is not even considered. They just
won't do it. (Admittedly I did get SOMETHING from the insurance - ten years worth of premiums if you
look at it that way.)
If it's good enough to insure, it's good enough to never leave your eyesight and be considered an
expensive and inconvenient piece of sports equipment that must be supervised at all times. Don't
think of it as something that can be locked up and left somewhere.
