For a long time I've had a co-op home contents insurance policy.
I was duly smug in that the limit per cycle stolen was a rather healthy 1000 GBP.
However...
Having damages a digi-cam recently, I had occasion to read the policy carefully.
It turns out that cycles are only insured (up to 1000 GPB) against theft FROM MY HOME, and that they are not insured against ... anything, away from home.
I *know* that the most cost effective way to insure cycles is to have a "suitable" home contents policy.

Can anyone recommend a "suitable" policy?
Axa insures away from the home and does new for old, but I wouldn't recommend them considering the hassle I had making a recent claim.

Marks and Spencer, the premium version of their policy has cycles covered as part of personal possessions when away from home. Their valuation limit is £4k/cycle before you have to start listing them individually (*). Worth putting your details through their quotation system.
For some its a competitive quote (me, Pete Clinch), for others it comes out as quite expensive.
(* I know of someone with a garage full of bikes who confirmed that yes, they will cover the lot as individually they are worth less than 4k/cycle. The total value of this person's bike collection is many tens of thousands. )

AA works for me - treats bikes as personal possesions with a limit of £1500 per bike. So insured the same as your diamond ring. Not even any clauses about locks etc. Not everyone approves of the AA, though
Can you extend your current policy? May be the best option if you are otherwise happy with it. My basic LTSB policy doesn't cover bikes away from home, but the "extended" option does, as long as they are locked up when unattended.
