Inner Tube problems (failing)

    I have a Mongoose MTB which I use for average off road terrain. Trouble is
    punctures, or at least inner tube failures. The wheels are 26" and I inflate
    to around 50psi. I generally use Vredestein tubes, but they keep failing in
    the same way: On the inside (spoke side0 of the wheel there apears a split
    that looks like a cut with a sharp knife. this runs around the circumference
    of the wheel and can be around 10 - 20mm long. It appears to be along a line
    of joinn (manufacture?) and there may be several locations where the split
    is starting. Yes I checked for sharp objects, spoke ends etc but there are
    none and i use a good spoke tape (or rather ring) that is thick. I also use
    talc in the tyres to ensure the tube can move on inflation. The tyres are
    good and hardly worn and the opunctures are not 'nip' punctures or due to
    any objects entering the tyre. So my question is, is this bad manufacture,
    poor quality tubes or what? What is the best type of tube to buy that will
    not fail so often? Is Vredestein a poor choice? (I emailed the supplier but
    no response). I'm fed up with having to fork out for new tubes and having to
    be carted home, though now i always take a spare tube with me.

    I don't think it's anything to do with the problem, but you might want
    to go a bit lower on tyre pressure off-road.

    How thick is thick? There isn't an edge to this that might be chafing
    the tube? Is it thick enough to leave an unsupported section of tube
    over the edge? Otherwise, taking into account everything you've said, it
    sounds like dodgy tubes, but I though Vredestein were a good brand.
    I've used some really crappy tubes in the past, and never seen this problem.

    I got them from halfords, they cover all the spohe ends though the spokes do
    not stick out anyway. I have even been round the inside of the rims with
    fine wet and dry to smooth any possible imperfections. I am waiting to hear
    from Vredestein - disappointed that several days after they have not replied
    to my email! I got some tubes from Aldi much cheaper than these and I may
    try them soon - at least with Aldi you can return stuff within 12 months if
    its no good.
