Trainer people: have you find a tire that'll last a fall/winter of riding the trainer AND riding outside? In other words I don't want to have change my tire to suit whether I'm riding indoors our out. Or is it verboten to ride your "trainer tire" outside and then put it back on the trainer? Any thoughts?

Yes, I use a cheapy Michelin for both. I find that the trainer will square the tire off pretty quickly, but the tire will still last for a long time after that. I even ride it outside with care, in a pinch, but don't expect a lot of corner grip.
Basically, I rotate my old road tires into use as trainer tires, and have never had a problem.
