  1. I saw a little boy (just post-toddler) whose bike seat was so low,
that his knees where at his chin at the top of the stroke.

Chatting to the gran about it and related matter she talked about how
it was hard to teach him to cycle without stabilisers as he wasn't
using his brakes, so his mum got very nervous about letting him roll
down hills. "He knows /how/ to use them - he just doesn't bother."

I borrowed the bike for a bit, to let my toddler try it for size, and
discovered the brake levers were hitting the handlebars before the
brake blocks (which were plump and unused) gripped the rim.

I adjusted the brake so the lever had a chance to work and told the
mum and gran as I returned the bike.

"Ah - that'll explain it - he /said/ he'd been using the brakes and
that they just weren't working." ...

but it's all right, surely he was wearing a hel....................

Believe it or not, he wasn't. His eldest sibling was. But in an
extreme form of the cool pushed back position.

His forehead and the front third of the skull were completely exposed.
Ace for throttling himself with the chinstrap, after his forehead has
    hit the pavement...
