I've decided that my ride position is too stretched and so have ordered a
rather shorter stem (Raceface Prodigy 01) to replace the lovely but too long
Easton EA50 currently fitted.
I'm pretty inept when it comes to mechanics but feel that changing a stem is
something I really should be able to do.
I have a fairly good understanding of how it all fits together but am a
little uncertain as to the best approach to adjusting the headset (I have a
standard star nut set up).
One approach I've come across is to tighten the cap bolt 1/8th of a turn,
tighten the stem, check for play, loosen the stem and repeat until no play.
Another I think I remember reading mentioned tightening the cap bolt until
it meets resistance.
Is there a proper way of doing things and what sort of damage can I do
under/overtightening the headset?
The headset I have is a Cane Creek S2.
