So I am living in San Juan, Puerto Rico at the moment and there are quite a few bar hopping biking groups Monday through Friday. Some tend to drink more and cycle less and others like the fixies cycle so hard core that no one can keep up. So I am the gringo from San Francisco trying to come up with new fresh ideas and I thought of a scavenger hunt ride.

But I am completely clue less. I jotted down some notes but they are kind of specific to the San Juan area. Anyone have any ideas they can share.

Another person was planning a different type of ride where at each stop a game will be played or poetry read or something else. So I am also trying to collect info and ideas for the ride to.

Any help is appreciated and I hope I am posting in the right place.

I've never heard of a biking scavenger hunt before, but it sounds like it could be fun! I'm not sure I understand the purpose, though. Is it to break up long rides, like if you rode to a certain neighborhood, then scavenged for 1 item, and then had to bike to a different neighborhood? Or are you talking about trying to scavenge at the bars themselves you mentioned? I'm old and senile, so easily confused, lol.

For a normal scavenger hunt for a biking group, I would make most of the items bicycle-related. Make sure they're things that are fairly easily found and not too expensive -- like maybe a used tube, a picture of a bike track in mud, the autograph of the owners of 3 bike shops in the area, a 'warning only' ticket from a policeman for bike speeding, etc., old handlebar streamers, battery lights, etc etc.

Thanks Sierra. So all these different rides in San Juan usually have a bar theme. Even the fixie group that cycles super hard meet at a bar and then cycle back. So I was talking to another guy that doesn't really go on the rides because they are so bar centered and he wanted to do a ride with 3 distinct stops that are not alcohol related and then maybe the last stop at a bar. I don't know why in San Juan biking goes with alcohol here.

So then I was trying to come up with ideas and I though of the scavenger hunt. Since I would be organizing it I would choose things that are free or super cheap like from the dollar store and all the San Juan rides start between 9 and 10 at night because the drivers here are so, so insane and there are less cars at that hour. So if it started at 9PM in San Juan that means almost 10PM and it would probably last 3 hours so it has to be businesses that are open at that hour.

I am just thinking out loud with this stuff but I know some of these people are super competitive so they will finish faster than the others. I don't want it to be like a race though. Depending on how many people show up I was going to put people in groups of maybe 4 so it is not just groups of 2.

Yeah the point is to get some cycling in while making it fun and creative. And yeah the stops would be spread out and I would be sending people around the city.
