whilst in france on a holiday i was fortunate to meet a former professional cyclist and he told me the best training he did was 5 minutes hard almost sprint speed and then 2 minutes recovery and then repeat until you have done your chosen distance it helps a lot with speed and stamina please comment with your opinions on this

Work on your own weakness, what works for one may not work for another (or even the same person at a different time).
