I was told that the lorries and busses then were governed to 20mph, so
that you could, if fit and on a good bike, just draught them as far as
you liked.
There is a photo in the local hospital of a bus from before ww2 in
Matlock that looks fairly modern until you look closely at the side
rails where is printed ''maximum 12mph''.
Apparently the A1 from Catterick had a line of lorries chugging at
20mph all the way.If this rule was re-introduced it could solve a lot
of cycling problems, including wind direction.Perhaps Mr Martlew might
draw up a bill for us.
