Here are a some questions I received from my instructor to read over and give a brief answer to go
over in class. I wanted to get your advice as to see if I was on the right track. Here they are.

1. The City of New York is looking for a Public Health Educator. Duties will range from Program
Planning to program implementation. Write a cover letter to be sent along with your Resume
stating why you would be the best person for this position. Be specific. Remember your roles and
responsibilities.
2. Health educators are the way of the future. You have been asked to serve on a committee
evaluating the need for Health Education Prevention/Promotion. Define health education
prevention/promotion and discuss the importance and need for it's continuing in the future.
3. You are a health educator whose primary assignment is in a high school wellness clinic. You have
very strict guidelines regarding information you can share with students about reproductive
options. Your community is quite conservative, however your principal realizes that many
students are already
birth control with students in need. You may not however give out any contraception or discuss
abortion. Jane, a junior at the school, approaches you with a problem. She has just taken a home
pregnancy test and has discovered she is pregnant. She comes to you for help and options.What does a
health educator do when a conflict arises between organizational policies and professional practice?
4. The A&D Company advertises for a health educator. The advertisement states they are looking for
someone with safety experience. During the interview you are told that the company wants to
implement an employee wellness program. Their intention is also to improve employee safety.
They hire you.
On the first day, you tour the plant and discover workers loading and unloading bags of chemicals,
tossing them onto pallets and causing dust to fill the air. As a matter of fact the entire plant is
full of this dust. No one is wearing protective facemasks.
The owner tells you that your primary job is the issue of the chemical dust that escapes from the
bags. You are assigned to educate the employees on how to handle the bags and wear proper attire.
You find out the boss is only concerned with their sky-high insurance premiums due to all the
illnesses.
You state your disappointment that you were hired for the purpose of reducing insurance premiums.
The boss states reduce their rates and you can develop a limited employee wellness program.
You have discovered this company takes many shortcuts and that OSHA has cited A&D several times over
the past few years.
Is it ethical for a health educator to allow himself to be used to save money for the employer?
Do you have an obligation to your employer or to report findings to the regulatory agencies?
