My racing bike has or had sachs ergo shifters.

The right side needed overhauled and I did not want any down time on my bike. I wanted to make it so I could fix it if something went wrong. I desiced to use some ultegra bar end shifters (wanted da and they were less but they were 9 speed) I wanted to mount them in the downtube part of the bars. Right under the break levers. Well I could have gotten them in there with some effort but the throw would have gotten In the way of braking. Plus they would have been too far to reach.
I borrowed some profile stoker bars that are U shaped with a upward turn. But they were 48cm wide and they were long enough that I ended up with a nice kink in my shoulders. I get this when I hunch down a lot or from other things. So I got some time trial bars and a shorter stem. The old one was 100mm this one is 90. well the kink is better but not gone. Hell it’s been there all weekend so it may be stress too.
http://www.knight-toolworks.com/web_temp_pics/bike3.jpg as far as I can tell they have about ½” or so less reach then the regular bars. So that’s good. But I still have a bit of that kink. I think the bars are higher too but one thing that I found the solution to my crotch pain was to raise the stem a bit in the first setup. That did wonders. But this setup it is not quite as good even with the stem set to the max height. (I think overall this setup is taller)
I really like this setup. My hands don’t get tired braking is far more effective and I don’t overshift. I know what gear I am in too. I am debating on getting another stem. I can get a 60mm on with about 30degree rise (not sure of the rise but it is less then 45 I think.
That would shorten the reach and let me raise the bars up higher.
What I am not sure of is that is a shorter reach about equal to raising the bars? I can’t afford to keep spending money to figure this out.
