Gwanoman said:Sorry to be a pain in the saddle folks...
But i have gone and done somethig rather rash...
I have volunteered to cycle from Munich to Freiburg in 2 days...
Im staying a week there and then cycling back...
Stage 1 200km
Stage 2 175km
Now i have done 100+ km rides before and been fairly fine after them but this is a lot longer. Its 2 centurys in 2 days. Now i want to do this but the butterflies are starting to get to me... Im leaving tomorrow morning at 7am... I honestly think ill be in the saddle for at least 8 hours on both days...
Can anyone offer me serious advice please?
Is it possible for me to realistically do this?😕
Since there's no time for any special training, you're limited to three things: (1) pacing strategy; (2) stops strategy; and (3) food/hydration strategy. As to pacing strategy, my suggestion is to ride at ~80% of your most recent 100km pace. I'm talking watts here, so if you don't have a power meter you'll have to do some conversions to speed at analyticcycling.comanalyticcycling.comOpen ↗. If your average power for 100km is 200w, I'd ride at ~160w. There's some math and logic behind this, but we don't have time to get into it. When you have time, read up on Andy Coggan's Training Stress Score and its underlying computation. As to stops strategy, my suggestion is to stop every 1.5-2.0 hours for at least 15 minutes. These stops will make a world of difference in your ability to ride the additional distance. As to food and hydration, basically you want to eat and drink constantly, from the first kilometer. Everybody has his own preferences, and mine are simple -- plain water, electrolyte tablets, bananas & fig bars. Others have far more elaborate food/hydration formulas. The point is, eat and drink small quantities continuously.
