We've had a new rider join us on our club runs for the last couple of
Sunday mornings. A nice young lady named Diana.
I passed her as I was riding down the hill to our meeting place last
sunday, and upon noticing that she was riding a Ti Litespeed with
4-spoke (spokes? razor blades, more like) carbon wheels, decided that
she was obviously far too serious a rider to be "one of us", so I bid
her good morning and was about to go on my merry way when she noticed my
club jersey and said "ah, you must be going where I'm going".
Turns out she doesn't even need the advantage of an ultra-lightweight
bike - she's got form, including a spell riding for the US national squad.
She joined up with us again today and I learned a couple of other
interesting facts about her, like the one about her best time for a 50
mile time trial being under 2 hours.
It's not fair. It just makes me feel incredibly slooooooooooooooow. 🙁
On the other hand, I have been feeling recently that some of my club
colleagues are a bit too slow for me, so maybe I need someone to put me
in my place.
