Just wanted to say many thanks for the advice and help from this group over the last few months. Despite various injuries, lack of training time and a swimming ability comparable to that of a kangaroo, I succeeded in completing the inaugural Ironman UK yesterday.
Fantastic day - volunteers, supporters and competitors were all awesome and I loved every minute of it. Unfortunately won't be doing any more as I can't possibly commit even the limited training time I managed (biggest week was 12 hours, average week was about 7) again, but I can honestly walk away and say that I did my best and have no regrets. It was a scorching day and the organisers had contrived to find a course made up entirely of hills (swim excluded) so I was pretty pleased with finishing time of 12:37.
I did write a lengthy race report but Explorer just crashed and lost it and I really can't summon the energy at the moment to rewrite. Suffice to say that my day started at 4:05 am by treading in a dogsh*t in my friends kitchen, but picked up considerably after that. I can't walk up stairs today and it looks like I'm in danger of losing at least 2 toenails but I've also got the biggest, dumbest grin on my face!

Thanks again.
Congrats! Um, that is, on everything but the 4:05 am incident!
