  1. I saw the pharmacist today and got the accu-chek meter for my reactive hypoglycemia. She showed me
the control solution that shows whether the strips are accurate. Does that mean they are 100%
accurate if the control solution is the right number (the mean) or is it still a percentage off? I
ask especially about it reading low numbers, since that's my problem.

I am glad the testing doesn't hurt, heh. I set it on 2 and I can feel it, but it doesn't really
hurt. There wasn't enough blood, so I lightly squeezed my finger and then there was plenty.

She was going to only prescribe enough strips for once a day, but I told her how can that be
effective testing.. what would be the point of testing. I told her I wanted to test 6-7 times a day,
at least until I understand how what I eat affects me.

I use medicaid for prescriptions and she said medicaid only pays for once a day, for those who don't
use insulin, but she said the way she wrote out the script "use as directed 3 times a day" she could
order 100 strips. So I have enough for 3 times a day, at least. I'm going to check into the
situation and see what else I can do.

I still can't believe the lack of attention I have experienced with doctors and insurance about
hypoglycemia.. especially when it is a pre-diabetic condition for so many people and could stay
    there longer with good control.

btw, I got an 83 at the doctors office, which was 2 hours and 35 minutes after eating breakfast
of 2oz orange juice, 3 slices of ham (carb 1g, protein 5g), and 12 peanuts. Not bad for a first
    test, heh.

No meter is 100% accuate. I only use my control solution if I get some wild looking number. I've
really only used it maybe 6 times at the most in the 4 years or so that I've had it. In fact, I use
it so infrequently that it often expires and I haven't noticed.

Try washing your hands with really warm water first, then shake your hand or allow it to hang at
your side for a few mintues before testing.

I know what you mean! Many Drs. do not even consider it to be a real medical condition.

AFAIK, there is no therapy for hypoglycemia.

It is one of the glaring examples of :

"The patient does all the work and most of the management. The docs mostly sit on the sidelines
cheering us on and writing the occasional prescription"
