    what are the common side effects of this drug at 25mg/day? should I take any precautions with
    activity, food, other drugs. thanks.

    It is typically well tolerated. You might notice increased urination. It can lower your serum
    potassium level enough to trigger ectopic heart beats ("skipped" beats sensation).

    Why do some doctors keep the dosage levels up when sodium is depleted in the body? Is there some
    other mechanism than reducing sodium that causes hydrochlorothiazide to reduce blood pressure?

    Each doctor has his/her own "style."

    No. There are some diuretics that do but hydrochlorothiazide is not one of those.
