  1. Hi,

I have been commuting for about 7 months now on a 10 year old rusty mountain bike. I have decided it is about time i got myself a nice bike to make my journey a bit more enjoyable.

My trip to work is around 5 miles and involves roads and gravel paths. I often go riding at weekends as well which involves gravel paths. I have decided a hybrid bike would be most suited to my riding.

I have looked around and come up with a short list of 3 hybrid bikes. I am willing to pay max £300 (bit skint atm). I have very little idea about bikes really and was wondering if you had any opinions on the following bikes or any recommendations of other bikes.

Evans Cycles | Globe Vienna 2 2010 Hybrid Bike | Online Bike Shop
Evans Cycles | Pinnacle Mean Streak 1.0 2010 Hybrid Bike | Online Bike Shop
Halfords | Carrera Subway 1 Mens Hybrid Bike 09 22"

    Thanks for any help

    John

The Carrera & Pinnacle have 26" wheels, so the benefit to you is simply newer components UNLESS you are shorter than 5'7" tall.

You probably want a bike with 700c wheels to make commuting more pleasant ...

By default, I would choose the Globe because it has 700c wheels.

BTW. The Globe Vienna has better components than the components on the other two bikes.

I think the only reason not to get the Globe vs. the other two bikes would be if you are really short OR if you hate the look of the curved top tube.

Brilliant thanks for that. I didnt realise the wheels were different sizes. I am 6'5" so will prob go for the 700c.
I was leaning towards the globe as Specialized have a good reputation. Its good to know the components are better.

  4. A Prius...

... or the bike with the bigger wheels.

    :p
