    Hi,

    I am going to purchase a Hybrid bike. I'm leaning towards the Marin San Rafael or San Anselmo.

    I tested the San Rafael and after being out of the saddle since childhood was amazed at the ride!

    I will be using the bike primarily for leisure but I am doing the Danskin Sprint Triathlon in NY in September.

    Anyone any views on Marin or think I should be looking at any other manufacturers eg. Raleigh, Trek etc.

    As a complete and utter novice I would welcome any advice.

    PS. I realise if I get hooked in I will more than likely want to trade up to a road bike in 18 months to two years.

    Hi, I bought a cheap 5 speed lead brick to ride about 20 years ago, six months after that I bought a custom built mountain bike with a 50-12 (112 inch) big gear on it, a year and a half later I had a custom hybrid frame built and dropped all the mountain equip on it. I still got it to this day. It is as strong as any steel bike can be, weighs 11kg. I still have it to this day and I love it to death but ! THE BIG BUT ! It is too heavy and too slow. My next bike which is now in the planning stages is going to light and fast, at 55 years of age I'm not going to compromise on anything. Why you may ask ? For the same reason people jump out of airplanes and not off chairs. Don't make the same mistake I did. Know your heart....
