how to measure spokes

Imagine a ruler with a hole at the 0 mark, into which the elbow of the
spoke goes. That's what a spoke ruler looks like. If your ruler has
its end as 0, then just hook the spoke over the end of the ruler.
Measure to the end of the spoke.

Dear Q.,

The DT Swiss spoke ruler has a hole large enough to hang the
spoke from its elbow, with the bottom of the hole at 0mm.

So that spoke ruler measures from the inside curve of the
spoke elbow to the far threaded end.

<----------------------------> yes

With luck, some bike dealers will explain a few oddities
that sometimes change things a millimeter or two.
