On page 6 there is a section entitled "Overtraining Sign and symptoms". I've noticed when I do too much (whether it's on the bike or in the gym with weights) I'll have the following out of the list ...
Prolonged recovery
Increased need for sleep
Sleep and mood disturbance
Excessive fatigue
Depression
Increased anxiety and irritation
This is true even though my numbers may actually be improving! I can't explain that one.
I like the quote by Peter Keen on that page... "The body does not get fitter through exercise; it gets fitter through recovering from exercise."

Hey doc, I generally like what you post, but linkie no workie
I've only overtrained one time. When I did, I wanted absolutely nothing to do with the bike. I didn't even want to think about riding. It would have been a chore to even post here.

I get the first four during a lot of hard training blocks. I think the same symptons arrive from "over reaching" as over training. THe best sympton of overtraining is reduced performance despite increased load.
