how far would you drive to a race? 1hour? 2hours? 12 hours?
how much would you pay to race? i dont mean race fees alone, but race fees AND fuel costs.

Depends how important the race is to you. The last race I did I drove 2.5 hours to the start and paid $75 entry fee. My truck gets about 16mpg. Then my support crew followed my for 200 miles during the race in that same vehicle. I guess the total for fuel ended up somewhere around $130. Plus overnight hotel fees, breakfast, etc. Luckily they're not all like this. The cost doesn't bother me that much though. This is why I've ridden probably 5000 miles since last year, bought a new bike, and all the other sacrifices that come along with this obsession. The race I entered before that one I could have ridden to easily, and cost me $15 to enter.
