  1. 295lb, 5ft9in newbie here. First Tri in 6 days.

    Swim, cake
    Bike, no big deal
    Run... uh.. walking counts right?

Ok, now you know where I'm at...

I find that when I start running, besides the obvious SPIKE in hear rate after running even a short distance, I have trouble breathing. Not like panting, but in getting a GOOD DEEEEEEEP BREATH like I have trained to do in riding, elleptical, swimming (ok, so I'm still working on that).

Can't get that good "diaphramatic"? breath in and it's driving me nuts.

Maybe it's just all my muscle and fat jiggling around that it's physically not possible but I never say never so...

    I'm asking!

Maybe you are tense on the run? I notice if I'm stress or tense, I will breathe much shallower. You can try to 'calm the breath' but inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth. Try to drop your shoulders and take a mental check if you are tense anywhere in your body while running.

    just some ideas...

Good ideas and you are/were right. Now that I've been running for 8months since then, I can do so and be "loose" and relaxed, and therefore can breathe!
